Beijing Vision is a sustainable urban project under construction. Starting from “Instant Hutong” as analytical base, Beijing Vision is meant as a contemporary strategy for downtown Beijing, displaying its creative potential and other not yet inquired solutions for the future. In the last few years both the physical space and the social structure of the Hutongs, which are strongly interlaced, were run over by huge transformations. They were often too fast for undertaking an appropriate reaction to them in term of policy or projects. Beijing Vision will investigate the notions of street ecology, social community, urban density, in the attempt to provide a pilot project for a sustainable habitat. The urban project, sensibly responding to the guide lines of the current “Conservation Plan for the Historic City of Beijing”, will offer a new vision to the community’s needs. It is thought as an open tool to be defined with people, trying to generate a discussion and asking questions more than suggesting a final answer to them. A multidisciplinary working team will be formed with professionals such as planners, social experts, artists, while consulting and meeting up with people and the local community will be encouraged in order to achieve the largest agreement by the parties concerned.
